More news on Adversary – Hive Mind 5

While I’d love to get Adversary out in time for Christmas, the real-life complications of the last few months have slowed my writing progress. The good news is that we are now in our new home, which is in a gloriously peaceful place. Finally free from neighbourhood pneumatic drills and hammering, my writing progress should return to normal.

Given the impossibility of hitting Christmas release deadlines, I’ll be putting a short story set in the Hive Future on my website for the New Year, and then releasing Adversary in February 2023.

Adversary (Hive Mind 5) Exp Release date February 2023

Being a telepath means being a warrior.

Eighteen-year-old Amber is the youngest of the five telepaths who protect the hundred million citizens of one of the great hive cities of twenty-sixth century Earth. As her city celebrates the start of a New Year, one of the other telepaths must stop work to have lifesaving surgery.

Amber is already worried how she and her unit will cope with the increased workload, but then she finds herself facing twin enemies as well. Inside her city, Keith takes advantage of his increasingly powerful position as one of only four working telepaths. Outside her city, Hive Genex sends the devious Adversary Aura to lead their defence against charges of attempting to kidnap Amber.

Yay!! I’m so glad to hear that you were able to get into a new space. A bad apartment or house can really do a number on you. I had spent the last 3 years or so living in environments that weren’t good for me in various ways – I finally moved recently, and I think I managed to find a space that will help my sense of well-being, rather than harm it! So, I can definitely relate to your struggle there.

Looks like I’m going to have to reread the Hive Mind series before February so that I can get caught up. I can’t wait!

I remember back after they reset Olivia Keith was unhappy that he had lost his untouchable love and was, shall we say unimpressed by Amber ‘stealing’ Light Angel.

Does Keith ever try and engage with Olivia in person now that she is a safe-to-meet borderline telepath and use his already garnered knowledge of her to try and start a relationship there? It would seem like a better use of his time that trying to screw over the rest of the Hive …

Oh and does that knowledge that his telepathy has an overload kill switch which they can presumably measure experimentally help with his mental state/attitude since hypothetically he can be a full time reliable telepath just not at beaches and carnival events etc (with trips to the beach to kill of his echoes of course) or is he too addicted to the oppressed victim role to change?

Hopefully not much longer now for Adversary.

It was entertaining how the Christmas short story grew into three episodes. Janet, you just can’t control your characters! 😀
